The Simien Mountains National Park is one of the major national parks in Ethiopia which had been registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978. Ras Dashen is the highest peak in Ethiopia, 4,620 masl. The boundary of the park starts 32 kms far from the town of Debark which is located 101 kms from Gondar. Simien is a home of endemic animals such as Ethiopian Wolf, Gilada Baboon, Walia Ibex and Minilki Bushbuck and many more. The park riches in many bird species among them are great many scavengers and bird of prey. Birds migrating from Europe and all over Africa also can be seen here in the highest pick of Ethiopia.
Early morning drive to Sankaber( the first campsite in the Simien mountains) through Debark city which serves as the Simien mountain’s headquarter located 100km distance from Gondar. After breakfast and organized all necessary logistics for your trip at the Debark tourist office continue to Sankaber and see partial view of the Simien mountains, afternoon drive back to Gondar.
