Addis Ababa means “New Flower.” founded by Emperor Menelik II in 1887. Addis Ababa is Africa’s diplomatic capital and with a population of more than 5 million; it is the seat for African Union (AU), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and many International organizations and more than 85 Embassies and diplomatic missions. The city decorated with impressive monuments of colonial architecture are scattered among stretches of sun-bleached shacks. Of the city’s tourist attractions the National Museum, “Merkato” the largest open-air market on the continent, the Ethnological Museum and the Ba’ata Church known as Menelik Mausoleum are few to mention. Visitors may enjoy souvenir shopping and visits to special art galleries. Hotel accommodation ranges from tourist class to luxury collection and varieties of restaurants serve delectable dishes from around the world. The lofty altitude of the world’s third-highest capital enjoys a mild, Afro-alpine climate. Temperate weather almost throughout the year interrupted by the occasional torrential down pours.
Morning after breakfast, meet your guide at the lobby of your hotel; get a brief program detail on what you are going to see from your guide. Start your visit from the very famous & historically significant church of Ethiopian Orthodox Church “trinity cathedral”, built by Emperor Haileselassie I in 1941 after he came back from exile defeating the Italians. Proceed to the national museum which hosts different types animal & humans fossils including “Lucy” & to wind up the morning tour, visit “Merkato” /the largest open air market in Africa/. In the Afternoon, visit the Ethnographic museum of Addis Ababa University, the old palace of Menelik II at Entoto Mountain (an ideal place to see Addis Ababa and the surrounding areas) & finally enjoy the panoramic view of Addis from Entoto view point. Late afternoon drive back to hotel
